María Lavilla Canga studied Architecture at the ETSAM, Technical University of Madrid (UPM) where she received her architectural degree in 2005. She attended art classes at the School of Fine Arts, Complutense University of Madrid (UCM).

From 2001, Maria has been working professionally in the offices of different architects and at ETSAM in the “Análisis e Ideación” department. In 2006 she became a member of the “Teaching Staff of the City of Madrid” specializing in the artistic and technical drawing.

I was a child when I began to feel the need to draw. When I was nine my mother brought home a portrait of my little brother. An artist drew it with crayons. I remember well how I was impressed; maybe because I realized that with the same tool that I used for coloring books, it was possible to capture something so magic, like the look of a child.

In high school I was better in math and science than in social or language studies. Because of that I decided to start studying Architecture instead Fine Arts, in order to find a way to combine these subjects with the visual arts.

Just as things started working out as I had imagined, I had to move to Boston and everything changed. This is when I decided to start drawing again, making my house, my studio.

Nuestroarte is the path I use to walk this stage of my journey. I hope you enjoy. Come back one day to see the next step.
